MSGOP Spotlights Marnita Henderson of Starkville

Marnita Henderson was born in Houston, MS and has spent her life guided by her Christian faith and conservative values.

A graduate of Starkville High School, Marnita chose to advance her education at Gilfoy School of Nursing to pursue her God given mission. During her time as a Registered Nurse, Marnita was the recipient of several awards, namely, the National Certification in Public Health and Mississippi’s Public Health Nurse of the Year. Marnita happily retired in 2002 and in 2009, she ran for Mayor of Starkville. Following her long-time interest in politics, she became an active member of the Oktibbeha County Republican Party where she was elected Secretary in 2010 and has held the position of Oktibbeha County Chairwoman since 2012. Additionally, Marnita is a proud member of the Mississippi Republican Party’s State Executive Committee and was also elected to the Municipal Election Committee for Oktibbeha County.

Marnita remains a dedicated advocate of the Republican Party and advancing its conservative principals. She and her husband of 54 years, Charles Henderson, have 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. They are avid supporters of their local university, Mississippi State, and enjoy gardening and attending Starkville First United Methodist Church where they are active members.
